Second Annual International Guitar Concert Sunday

The music continues at Texas A&M International University with the Second Annual International Guitar Concert on Sunday, April 15 at 4 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

This event is free and open to the public.

The TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble will perform guitar music from several countries including Spain, Germany, México, Jamaica, France, Italy, Poland, England and the U.S. Music styles include classical, new age, contemporary and flamenco guitar music.

The program also includes selected works written for the lute and instruments of the guitar family and original compositions by student composers.

"The TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble is a group of mostly music guitar majors and minors, as well as other instrumentalists who share experience in reading and performing of guitar literature for instrumental ensembles," said Dr. Gilberto D. Soto, associate professor of music education and Ensemble director.

Special guest performers include the TAMIU Flamenco Dance Troupe, under the direction of Bede Leyendecker, TAMIU assistant professor of dance, students from the Early College High School Program and other young guitar students from the community.

The performance is sponsored by the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences department of fine and performing arts and Webb County.
