‘Escribiendo con Luz’ at TAMIU April 19

Learn about digital photography and exploring identity with Writing with Light/ Escribiendo Con la Luz, a lecture that is part of the ongoing celebration of the Smithsonian Institute’s Exhibition, “Our Journeys, Our Stories.” The lecture is scheduled for Thursday April 19, 2007, from 1 – 2 p.m. in the Texas A&M International University Student Center, room 236.

This event is free and open to the public.

The guest lecturer is guest artist/photographer, Celia Alvarez Muñoz, a Mexican American conceptual multi-media artist whose approach to portraiture has been described as personal and poetic.

Her work has been housed in major museum, university, and corporate collectors, and ranges from hand-made books and photography to large-scale installations and public art pieces that emphasize the collective history of individuals, families, and communities.

During her 30-year career, the Texas native artist has exhibited internationally and created site-specific art at more than 50 museums in the United States.

Muñoz will also conduct a workshop for students enrolled in TAMIU’s Communications 3331 course.

On Friday, April 20, Muñoz will travel to Encinal Elementary School and conduct a workshop for 4th graders on archiving family digital photography.

The exhibition, its national tour and related programs are made possible by Ford Motor Company Fund. Ford Motor Company Fund has also provided support for the exhibition’s presentation in Laredo and for related education programs like “Writing with Light/Escribiendo Con la Luz.”
