The dances of tropical paradises will be showcased at the annual Texas A&M International University Una Primavera Mexicana Concert Friday at 7 p.m. in the University's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

This event is free and open to the public.

“Every year the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico premieres new dances from a different state or region in México for the Laredo community to enjoy. This year in commemoration of the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico’s 10-year anniversary, two new regions will be premiered. The new dances are from the Huasteca region of Veracruz and Querétaro,” said Gabriela Mendoza-García, TAMIU Ballet Folklórico director and founding member.

The Women's City Club of Laredo sponsored the purchase of the Huasteca, Veracruz, dance costumes.

In recognition of the Ballet Folklorico's 10th anniversary, it will be joined by special guests, Mendoza-García said.

“The TAMIU Ballet Folklórico marked its 10-year anniversary in October 2006 and we plan to celebrate this milestone with our audience at our Una Primavera Mexicana concert,” said Mendoza-García.

“We have invited TAMIU Ballet Folklórico alumni to participate in all aspects of this concert and they agreed to serve as MCs, ushers, volunteers and dancers. The TAMIU Ballet Folklórico has made a tremendous impact in the lives of students!” added Mendoza-García.

In addition to the celebration, the Dr. Francisco Mendoza Memorial Scholarship recipient will be announced.

The concert will feature performances by the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico, TAMIU TAMIU Ballet Folklórico Juvenil and the TAMIU Mariachi Internacional.
