‘Simplemente Lara’ Coming to TAMIU This Weekend

Enjoy the special performance Simplemente Lara, a one-man show starring José Rubén De León, at the Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 22 at 4 p.m.

Admission is $5 for students, faculty and staff and $15 for adults.

Simplemente Lara depicts the life and music by one of México's most famous songwriters and composers. Lara wrote such memorable songs such as: “Solamente Una Vez,” “María Bonita" and “Noche de Ronda.”

De León, actor, playwright and vocalist, is an accomplished baritone vocalist, plays piano and writes music. This is the Laredo native’s second at TAMIU. He also appeared in a one-man show about writer Federico García Lorca.

His training includes a B.A. in theater arts from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, American Music Theatre and The Young American Summer Theatre Workshop in Petoskey, Mich., and voice training with Courtney Slaughter Proffitt and Kathy Proffitt.
