Fine arts lovers are in for a treat during April at Texas A&M International University. April is full of performances at the University including the TAMIU 2007 Spring Dance Concert scheduled Friday at 8 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission is $5 and free for children ages 10 and under.

“Proceeds assist in the sending the students to conferences throughout the year. Art aficionados will also have the opportunity to view the beautiful artwork of Gloria So. Her paintings will be available for purchase though a silent auction bid. Proceeds from the sale of the paintings will benefit student scholarships in dance,” said Bede Leyendecker, assistant professor of dance.

The annual concert will feature performances by the department of fine and performing arts dance students. They will perform dances from various genres including ballet, tap, jazz, modern and flamenco.

The program also includes the awarding of the 2007 Terpsichorean Award.

“This year's Award will be given to Rogelio Rodríguez for his contributions to the aspiring dancers at the University and the recipient of the 2007 Blanche Flores Leyendecker Scholarship will be announced at the concert,” explained Leyendecker.
