Three new English as a Second Language classes will give English language learners an opportunity to learn business English and build or expand their vocabulary. Registration is now underway at Texas A&M International University's International Language Institute (ILI) in Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall, room 302.

Classes begin Monday, June 4.

Call the ILI at 326.2136 for complete course fee information.

The new courses are:

ESL Business English - designed for intermediate-level learners who would like to develop confidence and fluency in five communication contexts: socializing, telephoning, presenting information, participating in meetings, and negotiating. Although the course is primarily geared towards improving listening and speaking skills in English, it also includes tasks in reading and writing.

ESL Vocabulary Building - provides intermediate-level English learners with structured instruction to expand their vocabulary.  Vocabulary development is important to develop a higher level of language proficiency.  Students will learn more advanced academic and professional vocabulary and apply special methods and techniques to gain mastery of the new words and expressions.

ESL Life Skills - geared towards beginning level students who need to learn basic vocabulary and practical language skills to communicate in everyday situations. Through a variety of interactive exercises and activities, students will develop essential skills to communicate in an English-speaking environment.

Other ESL evening courses are ESL Conversation and ESL Pronunciation.

The ILI also offers Intensive ESL that meets Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. The Intensive program develops ESL listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in addition to grammar. Intermediate and advanced levels are offered in the summer session.

In addition to the ESL program, the ILI also provides foreign language instruction in Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese.

For more information on tuition and class times, please contact the ILI at ili@tamiu.edu or 326.2136.
