Annual Flamenco Workshop Returns to TAMIU June 16-17

Learn to dance flamenco from noted dance instructor and Laredoan, Rogelio Rodríguez, at the Texas A&M International University Rogelio Rodríguez Flamenco Workshop.

Dancers will meet Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17, in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Sam Johnson Experimental Theatre.

Tuition is free for this workshop. TAMIU and the City of Laredo are sponsoring the event.

Classes will be divided into beginning/intermediate and advanced sections.

The schedule is as follows:

Saturday, June 16
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.—Flamenco technique: castanets footwork
12 to 1:30 p.m.—lunch
1:30 to 5 p.m.—repertoire

Sunday, June 17
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—repertoire

Rodríguez returns yearly to TAMIU to teach this workshop. He has danced most of his life and has trained with such notables as José Greco Sr., Nana Lorca, Luisa Triana, Luís Montero, and Roberto Amaral.

He also performed as lead dancer for Charo in Las Vegas and has also performed along with Jerry Lewis, Joey Bishop, Dom DeLouise, and Jim Nabors. He choreographed and performed with the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony and Houston Pops Orchestras and is the owner and director of the Rodríguez Dance Academy in Houston, Texas.
