Spend the hot summer Sundays at Texas A&M International University’s “Summer Sundays” Recital Series starting June 3 at 4 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

This event is free and open to the public.

The Recital Series features performances by TAMIU students, area professionals and nationally known performers in many different performance styles.

Organist Mario Benavides kicks off the Series with a program that includes Prelude and Fugue in D Minor by Dietrich Buxtehude, “Pastorale” by Cesar Franck, Paraphrase and Double Chorale by Charles Tournemire, Prelude and Fugue in C Major by J.S. Bach, “Clair de Lune” by Louis Vierne and “Biblical Dances” by Frank Speller.

Benavides’ performances have been praised for the way he “showed forth his manual and pedal dexterity with great flare and precision, leaving no doubt that he was totally in command of his presentation.”

He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in organ performance from the University of Texas at Austin and will pursue his Ph.D. in the Fall at UT.

Future Series concerts feature Allen Treviño on July 22 and Fred Bahr on Aug. 5.
