Keep cool this Independence Day at the Texas A&M International University Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium. The LBV Planetarium will be open Wednesday, July 4 and Thursday, July 5.

It will be closed Saturday, July 7.

Starting at noon on Wednesday, “The Future is Wild” will show audiences a glimpse at what the future might look like five million years from now. At 1 p.m., “Force 5” will take audiences inside nature’s fury as they witness moments when all of nature’s powerful forces are unleashed. The last show, “Black Holes,” starts at 2 p.m. and incorporates several of the latest theories regarding black holes.

Visitors to the LBV Planetarium will also receive a free LBV Planetarium button.

The schedule for Thursday, July 5 includes “Secrets of the Sun” at 4 p.m. and “New Horizons” at 5 p.m.

“Secrets of the Sun” is an intimate look at the role the sun plays in the life of the solar system—from the nuclear forces churning at the heart of the sun to the mass ejections of solar material into surrounding space.

“New Horizons” allows audiences to explore the solar system from breathtaking landscapes to violent volcanic eruptions to Saturn's rings as they follow a comet as it travels through interplanetary space.

General admission is $4 and $3 for children and TAMIU students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to register for a contest to find local talent to do the voiceover for the Spanish version of “Secret of the Cardboard Rocket.”
