Trevino Guest Artist at Sunday Recital at TAMIU

This Sunday, local and area music lovers are in for a treat with the next Texas A&M International University's Summer Sundays Recital Series Concerts performance taking place at 4 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The guest performer for the afternoon is 14-year-old Allen Treviño, a tenth grader at Churchill High School in San Antonio. Treviño will perform music by J.S. Bach and Eugene Gigout on the Sharkey-Corrigan Organ and pieces by Frederick Chopin and Edvard Grieg on piano.

Treviño started playing the piano when he was four and the organ three years ago. Although he has mainly worked toward his own summer solo recitals for the past two years, he has been awarded a finalist position in the San Antonio Symphony Piano Concerto Competition, honorable mention in the Texas Music Teachers Association (TMTA) Piano Concerto Competition, first place in the TMTA Organ Competition and second place in the American Guild of Organists Regional Organ Competition.

He has been asked to perform in Phoenix and Tucson and has performed at fundraiser for the San Antonio Lyric Opera, Bach Off-Broadway concert and various schools and churches.

In addition to his memberships in the Junior Tuesday Musical Club, Treviño also participates in track and cross-country at his high school.

The next recital is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 5 with Fred Bahr.
