Community Dance Classes Offered for All at TAMIU This Fall

Learn to move with the grace of a dancer, dust off those old tap shoes or have your child keep active with dance classes offered by Texas A&M International University’s 2007-2008 Young Dancers Program.

Registration is Thursday, Aug. 30 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, room 122.

Session I starts Monday, Sept. 3 and ends Friday, Dec. 14. Session II will run from Monday, Jan. 7, 2008 through Sunday, May 25.

Classes are split into Children’s Classes and Teen/Adult Technique Classes.

The Children’s Classes will focus on a combination of ballet, tap and flamenco. All classes meet from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Eight – 10 year olds meet on Mondays, six – eight year olds on Tuesdays, two – four year olds on Wednesdays and four – six year olds on Thursdays.

Tuition is $40 a month, but a $10 discount applies when the session is paid in full at the start of the session and a $5 monthly discount applies to multiple siblings registered in the dance class.

Children will be required to purchase a uniform leotard (special order), pink tights, pink ballet shoes, tap shoes, castanets, Spanish shoes and a skirt. Items will be available for purchase during registration.

Teen/Adult Technique Classes will meet for ballet on Mondays from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and pointe from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Beginner flamenco classes will meet on Tuesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and intermediate/advanced will meet also on Tuesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Yoga class will meet on Wednesdays from 7 – 8 p.m. Jazz classes will meet on Thursdays from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and hip-hop classes from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Tuition for the Teen/Adult Technique Classes is $35/month for one class a week. Tuition for two classes a week is $45/month. Three classes a week is $55/month. For every additional class, tuition is $10 more.

The $10 discount for classes paid in full at the start of the session also applies to the Teen/Adult Classes.
