Ballet Folklorico Classes at TAMIU Sept. 8

Register for Mexican Ballet Folklórico classes at Texas A&M International University, Saturday, Sept. 8 at the University's Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA), room 123 from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Classes start Saturday, Sept. 8.

Ballet folklórico classes are open for children ages four and up.

Tuition is $35 a month and payable the first class day of each month. A $10 discount will apply if the entire semester (September - November) is paid in advance of the first class day.

Each semester consists of 13 lessons.

Session I will begin Saturday, Sept. 8 and end Saturday, Dec. 8. Session II is scheduled to begin Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, and end Saturday, April 26, 2008.

Classes will meet every Saturday according to their age groups:

  • 11 years and above-10 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Seven to 10 years-11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Four to six years-12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
  • Four to six years-1:30 to 2:30 p.m. (if an additional class is necessary).

All classes will meet in CFPA 123.

Mexican Folklórico dance lessons are offered to enable the participant to better understand the beauty and richness of the Mexican culture. Dance classes will focus on footwork (zapateado), skirt and hand movements and the history of the dances taught.

All students must wear shoes with a heel. Boys may wear casual clothing. Girls may wear casual clothing too; however, a black leotard and tights are preferred. A solid color Mexican ballet folklórico practice skirt is also required for the girls. All students interested in participating in public performances will be required to purchase their own costume.
