LPO Features Special Offer on Season Tickets
The Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra announced its 28th Concert Season last Friday, offering a very special incentive to boost ticket sales – a 50 percent discount for all new season ticket holders.
“There are many people who have gotten out of the habit of buying season tickets,” said LPO President Alejandro Cabezut, “We want to give everyone a special opportunity to see the Orchestra and if we have to discount the season ticket price it is well worth it.”
Season tickets cost $100 for adults and $85 for seniors (age 62+). For first-time purchasers of season tickets, that price will be reduced to $50 for adults and $45 for seniors.
The reduced price will only be available to new season ticket purchasers—people who have not purchased season tickets in the past two seasons or more.
Individual concert tickets are available for $25 for adults and $18 for seniors.
“It’s quite an incredible deal,” said Brendan Townsend, LPO music director, “For the cost of two individual concerts, new subscribers can hear all five of our concerts.”
The package deal covers all five of the LPO’s “Myths & Legends” concert season which includes famous works by Rossini, Strauss, Faure, Dvorak, Beethoven, Rimsky-Korsakov, Liszt and Haydn, as well as premieres of works by Peadar Townsend (the conductor’s brother), Heather Schmidt, Steven Dankner, Behzad Ranjbarran and Roberto Sierra.
The first concert of the season, “Mythic Struggles,” will be held Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. at Laredo Community College’s Martínez Fine Arts Center. This concert will bring to musical life the mythological tales of Bellerophon taming the winged horse Pegasus and the Irish story of Fionn Mac Cuhaill and the Battle for Brosna, written for the LPO by Townsend’s brother, Peadar.
“It is a marvelous personal thrill for me to bring my brother's music to the stage of Laredo,” said Brendan Townsend, “This is a world premiere of this work—something which is a great moment in any orchestra's life.”
Four other concerts are planned for the remainder of the season. All start promptly at 4 p.m.
In June, the Orchestra was awarded the 2007 ASCAP Award for Innovative Programming by the League of American Orchestras, placing the LPO as one of the leading orchestras in the country for its commitment to innovation and the presentation of new works.

The LPO is a collaborative effort between Texas A&M International University and LCC. University and college students with current ID are admitted free of charge.
