October at TAMIU features Art, Music, Lectures, Athletics

This October, Texas A&M International University will be the host to several on-campus events full of music, art, lectures and athletics. 

Highlights include the 3rd Annual AutMus Fest as well as other music performances by Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, and a Steinway Piano Recital. 

Also, the A.R. Sánchez Distinguished Lecture Series continues Oct. 11 with “Einstein in the 21st Century” featuring Dr. Alan Lightman in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts
Recital Hall.

October TAMIU Arts events include:

TAMIU’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts will be the host to music recitals and art gallery exhibitions.

Oct. 11 will be the final day to visit the exhibit “Mutations,” ceramic sculptures, drawings and paintings by Georgia Tambasis.

Oct. 18 will be the opening reception to the latest gallery exhibition “Bon Voyage Monsoons de Pileon,” a multi- media installation by Richie Budd in Center for Fine and Performing Arts Gallery. Reception is from 5-8 p.m. Gallery hours are from 12-5 p.m. Monday thru Thursday.

October TAMIU Music events include:

3rd Annual AutMus Fest on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 2 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. on TAMIU front lawn (University Boulevard).  AutMus is a celebration of music and offers a variety of artists and genres. Food and refreshments will be available, as will fun games and activities for children. AutMus Fest is presented by the TAMIU Alumni Association. More information is available at autmusfest.com

Saturday, Oct. 20 – Voice Studio Recital, Center for Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall at 4 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 20 – Steinway Piano Recital Series featuring Kate Stevens, Center for Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall at 8 p.m.

Sunday, Oct 28 – Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra “Epic Moments”- TAMIU Center for Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall at 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 17 - the Center of Western Hemispheric Trade will present the first of the 2007/2008 Keynote Speaker Series featuring Dr. Stephen P. Magee with “Politicians vs. Lawyers and the Decline and Fall of the Great Superpowers” in Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 111 at 7:30 p.m.
