A state-of-the-art room equipped with computers and a Bloomberg terminal at Texas A&M International University will bring the world’s financial markets to the University and facilitate the study of the finance world.

The Value-Investing Trading Room and Technology Center was dedicated Thursday, Sept. 6 with a ceremony attended by A.R. “Tony” and wife Tani Sánchez at the University’s Western Hemispheric Trade Center.

The Center, renovated thanks to a generous donation from the “Tony” and María J. Sánchez Family Foundation, is an extension of the University’s Business Technology Center and provides a progressive application of e-learning principles to the finance education.

Dr. Jacky Yuk-Chow So, dean of the College of Business Administration, explained that since information on bid-asking prices, trading volume and news related to fixed income securities, equities, options and future contracts will be available to the students; textbook theory can be applied to solve real-world business problems.

“A state-of-the-art trading room can also serve as a remote-access pedagogical facility for online business programs,” So said, “The facility will better prepare students for job opportunities in the financial sector.”

So said that the Center will also enhance faculty research.

“It will also support faculty use of the latest pedagogical tools in the classroom and the possibility of accessing historical and real-time data for case-type research.

The Center will also be used to support short-term and long-term professional development programs such as certifications in investments, banking, real-estate finance and other executive programs, So said.

Tony Sánchez, on hand for the opening, said the Gift exemplifies the A.R. “Tony” and María J. Sánchez Family Foundation’s commitment to effecting social change and improving the quality of life for residents of South Texas and the border.

“This Value-Investing Trading Room and Technology Center is part of the commitment of our Foundation, which is to dedicate time and resources to strengthening our state and nation through the advancement of higher education for Hispanic-Americans along the border. We are delighted to be able to support TAMIU student and faculty research through this new facility,” Sánchez said.

Dr. Ray Keck, TAMIU president, said the latest Gift from the Sánchez Foundation is an example of the legacy of partnership with the University.

“We have truly been blessed by the partnership of the Sánchez family.  Their presence on this campus is felt by all: students, faculty and staff and alumni.  All universities dream of such partnerships and we are most fortunate that they share and affirm our vision of higher education in South Texas,” Dr. Keck said.
