The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will provide a targeted Seminar for business owners on how to implement discipline in the workplace on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at TAMIU’s Western Hemispheric Trade Center, Room 125.

Registration fee is $30. Those registering prior to Friday, Oct. 26 receive a $5 discount.

Discipline in the workplace is the means by which supervisory personnel correct behavioral deficiencies and ensure adherence to established company rules. The purpose of discipline is to correct behavior. It is not designed to punish or embarrass an employee.

Often, a positive approach may solve the problem without requiring discipline. However, if unacceptable behavior is a persistent problem or if the employee is involved in misconduct that cannot be tolerated, management may use discipline to correct the behavior.

The seminar will be lead by Cynthia Ruiz from At Work Personnel and will include the following:

  • Defense for Wrongful Claims
  • Proof - The Bottom Line
  • Decisions for immediate terminations
  • Consequences of inactions
  • Consistency
  • Factors to follow
  • Choosing the number of warnings
  • Benefits of a format
  • Common employee discipline problems.

To register, call the TAMIU SBDC office at 956.326.2827 or e-mail sbdc@tamiu.edu

SBDC office hours are from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
