Steinway Recital Series Features An Sunday

An internationally renowned classical pianist will be presented in performance this Sunday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. in Texas A&M International University’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Ning An will perform the first concert in the 2007/2008 TAMIU Steinway Piano Recital Series. Admission is free and open to the public.

This is the second season of the Steinway Series. TAMIU is one of only two universities in Texas to be named an “All Steinway School.”

A recent graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, An  is artist-in-residence at Lee University in Tennessee. He is the first prize winner of the 2006 Tivoli International Piano Competition and first prize winner of the 2003 William Kappel Piano Competition.

An made his concerto debut at 16 when he performed the Rachmaninoff Second piano concerto with the Cleveland Orchestra. He has since appeared with many prestigious orchestras around the world such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic and the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and has presented recitals in venues such as Salle Verdi in Italy, Salle Cortot in Paris and in the Palais de Beaux Arts in Antwerp.

He has been invited to perform at numerous festivals including the Gina Bachauer Piano festival in Salt Lake City, New Hampshire’s Monadnock Music Festival, the Bourglinster Festival in Luxembourg, and the Interlaken Music Festival in Switzerland.

The next recital in the Steinway Series is scheduled for April 8, 2008, featuring Dr. Fritz Gechter, TAMIU associate professor of music and piano.
