The perennial Laredo favorite, Texas A&M International University Ballet Folklórico’s Las Posadas Concert, will return this year to help kick off the Christmas season Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall.

Admission to the event is $5.

The Concert is sponsored in part by the City of Laredo and Target.

“Las Posadas features the re-enactment of the procession that Joseph and Mary made through Bethlehem,” explained Perla Diaz García, adjunct instructor of dance and folklórico.

During Las Posadas, guests stroll through the TAMIU campus during the re-enactment, ending up at the CFPA Recital Hall.

“The event will feature performances by the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico and the Ballet Folklórico Juvenil, performing dances from different regions in México and dances from the Mexican Revolution period,” said García.

The traditional dances on the program represent north México, Chiapas, Baja California, Colima, Michoacán, Veracruz and Jalisco.

The Concert will also feature performances by special guest dancers from Dalia’s Dance Academy and the Honore Ligarde Elementary School Ballet Folklórico.

In its 11th year, the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico started Las Posadas to preserve the traditional Mexican posada and regional Mexican dances.
