TAMIU IBC 2007/2008 Keynote Speaker Expert on Migration Issues

A Mexican immigration specialist will speak about U.S./México Migration Issues at the next Texas A&M International University College of Business Administration Western Hemispheric Trade Center International Bank of Commerce 2007/2008 Keynote Speaker Series Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Western Hemispheric Trade Center (WHTC), room 111.

This event is free of charge and open to the public.

Gustavo Mohar, a Mexican lawyer specialized in U.S./México migration affairs, will present “U.S./México Migration Issues.”

Mohar has more than 25 years of experience with the Mexican government and in the last 11 years has been involved in United States-Mexican migration policies and border security. He was Minister for Migration Affairs at the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C., and from 1998 to 2000, was Minister for Political and Congressional Affairs.

In 2001, Mohar was appointed Chief Negotiator for International Migration Affairs, representing México at the technical migration negotiations launched by President Vicente Fox and President George W. Bush. He later became advisor to the Minister of Governance, participating in the implementation of the México-U.S. Border Alliance, and later in the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America.

Mohar is currently Secretary General at the Center for Investigation and National Security (CISEN) and has been a lecturer at academic and specialized institutions, including Harvard University, University of Chicago, and University of California at San Diego. He has also published several essays on international migration, border and security issues.

He is México’s representative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) international migration group.

Mohar works and resides in México City.

The IBC 2007/2008 Keynote Speaker Series presents practical and targeted lectures imparted by distinguished leaders, recognized experts and outstanding scholars in the trade and business arenas.

The Series brings to the University individuals of exceptional accomplishment and expertise to enhance the academic experience of TAMIU students, faculty and the community.

The next installment in the series is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 6 with Susan Ginsburg, Visiting Senior Policy Analyst at the Migration Policy Institute in Washington, D.C.
