‘People’s Law School’ Saturday at TAMIU

Registration is now underway for a rare opportunity to participate in the “People’s Law School,” considered the oldest and most successful law program for the lay person in the country on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).

The event is free of charge and open to the public.  Interested persons must pre-register to attend. Registration is open to the first 300 people at peopleslawyer.net or 1.877.839.8422.

TAMIU’s Western Hemispheric Trade Center (WHTC) will host the initiative presented by the Center for Consumer Law at the University of Houston Law Center and sponsored by the A. R. “Tony” and Maria J. Sanchez Family Foundation.

WHTC 116 will be the main room for the People’s School, with sessions scheduled throughout the WHTC. Refreshments will be available for the opening session.

The People’s Law School will host volunteer lawyers, judges, and law professors, to teach courses in six different areas of law, providing useful information about consumer law, credit and debt collection, wills and estates, family law, landlord-tenant law, and immigration law.

Each registrant may choose up to three classes to attend. Classes will be offered in both English and Spanish.

More than 25,000 people who have attended the “People’s Law School” in other Texas cities have discovered that when it comes to the law, knowledge really is power.

While The “People’s Law School” won’t make those attending attorneys, it will help them to settle disputes and avoid problems. Whether buying a car, preparing a will, dealing with a debt collector or disputes with neighbors, knowing one’s legal rights can make a difference.
