Sharkey-Corrigan Organ Recital Sunday at TAMIU
The next installment of the Sharkey-Corrigan Organ Recital Series will be presented this Sunday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. at Texas A&M International University’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ Recital Hall.
The Recital is free of charge and open to the public.
It will feature chamber music by TAMIU faculty members Dr. Susan Berdahl, Dr. Yu-Mei Huang, Mariko Morita, Brendan Townsend and guest artist Randall William Harlow.
The afternoon recital is dedicated to the memory of Ana María Ramírez, a TAMIU student who died in a tragic auto accident in San Antonio this past weekend. Ramirez, a native of Eagle Pass and communications major, was a work study student in the department of fine and performing arts.
The program will feature Gary Shocker’s Praeludium for Flute and Organ featuring Dr. Berdahl on flute and Morita on organ; Sowerby’s Dialog for Organ and Piano with Harlow on organ and Morita on piano; Hovhaness’ Sonata for Ryuteki and Sho with Berdahl on E-flat flute and Morita on organ and Rheinberger’s Suite for Organ, Violin and Cello, Opus 149 to feature Dr. Huang on violin, Townsend on cello and Morita on organ.
Berdahl is a TAMIU associate professor flute and music. Huang is a TAMIU assistant professor of upper strings and Morita is TAMIU visiting assist professor of music. Townsend is a TAMIU and LCC assistant professor of music.
Guest artist Harlow is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. He holds a bachelor’s degree and performer diploma from Indiana University and a master’s degree from Emory University.
The Series was initiated in 2006 by Morita.
The Sharkey-Corrigan Organ is a gift of the E. H. Corrigan Foundation, led by longtime Laredo businessman and passionate supporter of the arts E. H. Corrigan.
The next performance in the Series is Tuesday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m.
