Texas A&M International University officials are encouraging students to attend a final student-fee hearing to learn why the University is raising tuition fees for the 2008-09 school year.

The meeting will be held Monday,  Feb. 25 at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center Rotunda.  Previous meetings were held on Feb. 13 and 14.

Tuition will increase $13 per semester credit hour, beginning September 2008. Of the $13 increase, $10 was previously planned. The total $13 increase per semester credit hour will see a TAMIU undergraduate taking a full 15-hour load pay $2,250 fall 2008.

The additional $333,300 collected from the $3 increase will be directed to the University’s reserves.  TAMIU is required by The Texas A&M University System to have two months’ operating expenses in reserves, but the University’s rapid growth has left it with about 1.8 months of operating expenses.
