Texas A&M International University will take part in a national program Sunday that hopes to assist students and families across Texas in securing financial aid information.

Known as “College Goal Sunday Texas,” the TAMIU events will take place on campus at Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 158 (Office of Financial Aid) and also at the Stars and Stripes Air Show Spectacular scheduled Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Laredo International Airport, Maher entrance. Both workshops will be offered from 2 – 4 p.m. at both locations and are free of charge.

Students and their parents will be able to complete FAFSA application forms and receive information about grants, scholarships, loans and other ways the federal and state government can help pay for their higher education.

The free workshops are part of College Goal Sunday, a national program in which Texas began participating in 2006. Last year, College Goal Sunday Texas assisted more than 1,000 students at 38 locations. This year it expects to serve at least 2,000 students and families across the state.

Each year the federal government awards more that $80 billion in financial aid for higher education. According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texans received $4 billion in aid last year.

It is hoped strong participation in College Goal Sunday will help remove financial need as a barrier to higher education.
