Listen to a wide range of music at the Texas A&M International University Combined Concert featuring the TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble and the TAMIU Symphonic Wind Ensemble Friday, Feb. 29 at 7 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall.

This event is free and open to the public.

“The TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Gilberto Soto, will open the concert with a number of wonderful selections, including 'Sleepers Awake,' from Cantata #140, by J.S. Bach, and the ever-popular 'Huapango' by J.P. Moncayo. Those of you who have gone to concerts featuring the TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble are fully aware of the highly professional manner in which Dr. Soto leads this student ensemble,” said Dr. Michael Stone, director of bands.

“The TAMIU Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform Modest Moussorgsky's masterpiece, 'Pictures at An Exhibition.' This is a transcription by Japan's most prestigious composer Tohru Takahashi, and not based on the well-known Ravel transcription, but rather directly from the piano score. It is specifically designed to bring out the massive array of colors that only a band can produce,” Dr. Stone added.

The TAMIU Classical Guitar Ensemble program also includes: “In the Mood” by Glen Miller and “Every Breath You Take” by The Police.

“I sincerely hope that many of you will be able to attend this concert sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences’ department of fine and performing arts,” said Stone.
