Texas A&M International University Athletics has designated Saturdays season finale basketball doubleheader against UT-Permian Basin as U.S. Military Appreciation Day. The Dustdevils and Falcons will tip-off with the men’s game at 2 p.m. at the Kinesiology-Convocation Building with the women’s game to follow at 4 p.m.

The concession stand will offer Mariachi Express tacos to fans. Donations received for these tacos will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project, an organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of severely injured service men and women.

The TAMIU Army ROTC program will present the colors between the games. Laredo veterans groups will be recognized for their contributions and service to the nation.

TAMIU assistant men’s basketball coach Aaron Garza spent six years serving in the United States Marine Corps before beginning a career as a student-athlete at TAMIU. He said he feels that honoring our veterans from past and present wars is important.

“Considering everything veterans have done for our country the least we can is show our appreciation,” Garza said.

“I also hope everyone shows their generosity by making a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project fund. These injured men and women have suffered greatly and we need to show them that Laredo supports them and their families during this difficult time,” he added.
