Celebrate Women’s History Month at Texas A&M International University with Mujeres Poetas Hispanas (Female Hispanic Poets), a Brown Bag Lecture Series sponsored by the TAMIU Women and Gender Studies, Tuesday, March 25 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center Rotunda.

This event is free and open to the public.

“The Introduction to Literature in Spanish class and members of the Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi, will read poems by Hispanic women—poems written in Spanish by women from Latin America and Spain. Some students will also read their own poems and some will be set to music,” explained Lola O. Norris, visiting assistant professor of Spanish.

The poetry reading will comprise poems from all literary periods and from across the Spanish speaking world and include well-known poets such as Santa Teresa de Ávila, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Rosario Castellanos, Alfonsina Storni and Delmira Agustini as well as modern poets Cristina Peri Rossi, Marjorie Agosín, Antonia Álvarez, Julia de Burgos and Gioconda Belli.

Other Brown Bag Lecture Series events scheduled for Women’s History Month are: “Bombay Calling,” a Brown Bag Film discussion, with Dr. Mehnaaz Momen, assistant professor of public administration, Monday, March 24 at 2:30 p.m. in Bob Bullock Hall, room 222; and Brown Bag Discussion: Casa Misericordia on Wednesday, March 26 at 12 p.m. in Anthony J. and Georgia A.
