Earn six hours of college credit in three intense weeks with Texas A&M International University’s Maymester in the City of Eternal Spring—Cuernavaca, México. Spend Maymester studying at the Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca—a garden-like setting—with students from all over the world from May 9 – 31 … and return in time for Summer Session I.

Students will need to register for SPAN 3390 and SPAN/ENG/LAS 4397, totaling six semester credit hours. Graduate credit may also be arranged.

Applications are due as soon as possible. Students may apply online at tamiu.edu/dip/oie
Maymester registration starts Monday, April 7.

“All students will be immersed in Spanish language study according to their level of proficiency,” advised Dr. Kati Pletsch de García, faculty leader for the trip.

“SPAN 3390: Language and Culture for the Professions is designed for students who are interested in studying Spanish in the context of activities related to the professional world. This course will focus on domestic and international issues related to business and commerce, education, law enforcement, medicine and social services and includes topics related to cultural considerations, generalized and specific professional concerns and correspondence,” Dr. Pletsch de García explained.

“SPAN/ENGL/LAS 4397: International Service Learning: In the Footsteps of the Aztecs is a course that seeks to engage students in activities that combine both academic learning and community services. Students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs,” Pletsch de García said.

The cost is $2,144 and includes lodging, meals, excursions to México City, Taxco and a weekend in Acapulco and tuition and fees at Universidad Internacional in Cuernavaca. The cost excludes TAMIU tuition and fees, round trip airfare and personal expenses.

TAMIU has many scholarship opportunities available from the International Education Fee Scholarship, the Guadalupe and Lilia Martínez International Fellows Scholarship and the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. Last semester, all students who studied abroad received assistance to study abroad.
