Enjoy a wonderful array of choreography inspired by students, faculty and guest artists at the 2008 Spring Informal Dance Recital sponsored by the Texas A&M International University Dance Club Wednesday, April 2 and Thursday, April 3 at 8 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Sam Johnson Experimental Theatre, room 108.

Admission is $3. Proceeds support the TAMIU Dance Club.

Early arrival is suggested; seating is limited.

The evening’s program includes student works from from June Hinojosa, Ilse Schaffler Sarmiento, Amy Vazquez and Kristina Dávila.

“I wanted to create a forum that would foster the growth and development of student’s choreographic explorations in dance. They desire to express themselves artistically through movement and I hoped to provide an opportunity for that,” explained Courtney Mulcahy, visiting assistant professor of dance.
Mulcahy will premiere “I Heart NY,” a lighthearted look at what one might expect to find when visiting New York City. Also in the presentation will be Mulcahy’s “Within… .” This work was recently performed at the American College Dance Festival at Stephen F. Austin University and received outstanding reviews by the adjudication panel which called it “Beautifully successful.”

TAMIU instructor Sandra Leal will feature jazz and folklórico selections.

Special guest artists David Arevalo and Lorena Rodríguez, dance instructors from Laredo Community College, will also perform.

For more information, contact Mulcahy at cmulcahy@tamiu.edu, or call 326.2625, or visit office
