The Texas A&M International University Steinway Recital Series continues with a performance Sunday, April 6 at 4 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall, featuring Dr. Fritz Gechter and Dr. Mary Grace Galvan-Carroll.

The evening’s program includes works from Fauré, Mozart, Debussy, Chopin, Gershwin, Grieg and Lerner and Loewe.

Dr. Gechter is associate professor of music and piano at TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences’ department of fine and performing arts. Gechter has appeared both as a soloist and collaborative artist in the United States and abroad.

He teaches applied piano, class piano and music theory while also maintaining a private piano studio in Laredo. This past summer, he led a group of students for a month to study and explore Salzburg, Vienna and Austria. This coming summer, he will be leading a group to Taiwan.

In October 2006, he launched TAMIU’s first recital series, the TAMIU Steinway Series.

Dr. Galvan-Carroll earned a doctorate of musical arts in piano performance from the University of Miami, Coral Gables under the tutelage of Yamaha artist J. Robert Floyd. Since 1994, she has been the director of piano studies at the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts.

Carroll is the principal pianist for the award-winning Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra and frequently collaborates with colleagues at Laredo Community College and TAMIU. This will be her second appearance on the TAMIU stage with Gechter.
