Noted author and lecturer on the intersection of reading and writing Dr. Sheridan Blau will lead a TAKS Workshop Saturday, April 19 that will focus on how students can be more successfully prepared for the open-ended, literature-based questions on the TAKS ELA test.

Texas A&M International University’s South Texas Writing Project (STWP) will host the workshop, “What’s Worth Saying About A Literary Work” at La Posada’s Philip V Room, Saturday, April 19 from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. A buffet breakfast will be served at 8:15 a.m.

Dr. Blau is past president of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), Director of the South Coast Writing Project, and author of several books on the intersection of reading and writing.

“Both pre-service and veteran teachers will benefit from these workshops, which are geared toward improving students’ writing and TAKS performance. In addition, teachers who attend the workshop will earn three hours of professional development credit,” said TAMIU’s Dr. Ellen Barker, STWP director and workshop organizer.

Workshop pre-registration ends Wednesday, April 16 and costs $40. On-site registration begins at 7:45 a.m. the day of the Workshop and costs $50. Students and faculty from Laredo Community College and TAMIU can attend for $10 with presentation of their IDs.
