This week, Texas A&M International University inaugurated its Undergraduate Honor Cord Ceremony in ceremonies held at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ Recital Hall Tuesday, April 29.

“The Undergraduate Cord Ceremony was designed to recognize the academic achievements of undergraduate students with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. They received their honor cord, which they will be entitled to wear as part of their regalia on the day of graduation,” explained Dr. Juan Lira, Regents Professor and associate provost.

“We are extremely proud of these students for their outstanding accomplishments. We congratulate them and their loved ones for the wonderful support they have provided to these students because to achieve this level of academic excellence requires support and encouragement from many individuals,” said Dr. Dan Jones, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

“This ceremony, like no other, will forever memorialize the academic achievements of these students. This recognition is our most exalted method of saluting academic achievement,” said Dr. Ray Keck, TAMIU president.

Honors accorded are Cum Laude, GPA of 3.5 or higher, but less than 3.70; Magna Cum Laude, GPA of 3.70 or higher, but less than 3.9 and Summa Cum Laude, 3.9 and higher.
