TAMIU Offers ESL, Foreign Language Courses June 9

You can now register for summer English as a second language (ESL) classes at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU). Classes, offered by TAMIU’s International Language Institute, start Monday, June 9 and finish Friday, Aug. 1.

Last day to register is Friday, June 6; a fee of $15 applies to late registration.

Admission to TAMIU is not required, but students who would like to enroll in ESL classes must first take a placement exam. Cost of the exam is $25.

Full level courses and half-level courses for intensive classes are available. Full level courses include listening, speaking, grammar, reading and writing. Sessions are available in the morning, midday and evening to accommodate adult learners. Tuition is $1,162 for full level classes and $1,162 for an ID card, access to the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library and computer labs.

Every student is required to have a student ID card. The ID card is for library and computer privileges. The computer access fee provides for maintenance and expansion of academic facilities on campus and the library access fee allows students access to all library services.

Half-level courses—listening, speaking and grammar or reading and writing—are also available for $562 or $600 for an ID card, access to the Killam Library and computer labs. Sessions meet in the morning, midday and evening.

Special ESL courses are also available. TOEFL Preparation Course is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 – 3 p.m.

Business English will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 8:30 p.m.

The TAMIU ILI is also offering foreign language courses from Monday, June 9 through Friday, Aug. 1. Classes offered include beginning Spanish I and II, beginning Japanese I and beginning Mandarin I. Class meeting times vary.

Tuition and fees for the TOEFL course, business English and foreign language classes is $409 and includes ID card, access to the Library and computer labs. Tuition only, without ID card or access to the Killam Library or computer labs, is $371.
