Flamenco Workshop Features Rodriguez at TAMIU

Flamenco aficionados will want to make plans to attend the 2008 Rogelio Rodríguez Flamenco Workshop taught by noted dance instructor Rogelio Rodríguez Saturday, June 7 – Sunday, June 8 at Texas A&M International University.

This workshop is free, but spots are limited. The workshop is geared toward students ages 13 and older.

The schedule and sections are as follows:

Saturday, June 7
9:30 – 10 a.m.
- Sign in at the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Sam Johnson Experimental Theatre, room 108.
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. - Castañuelas, braceo y zapateo, CFPA 108.
12 – 1:30 p.m. - Break for lunch
1:30 – 5 p.m. - Repertoire. The beginner/intermediate group will meet in CFPA 122 and work on a Sevillanas. The advanced group will meet in CFPA 123 and work on a Bulerias.

Sunday, June 8
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. - Both groups meet in the same rooms to finish the repertoire for the weekend.

For the past nine years, Rodríguez returns to TAMIU to teach this workshop. He has danced most of his life and has trained with such notables as José Greco Sr., Nana Lorca, Luisa Triana, Luís Montero, and Roberto Amaral.

He also performed as lead dancer for Charo in Las Vegas and alongside Jerry Lewis, the late Joey Bishop, Dom DeLouise, and Jim Nabors. He choreographed and performed with the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony and Houston Pops Orchestras and is the owner and director of the Rodríguez Dance Academy in Houston, Texas.
