GIS Course Set at TAMIU Friday

Learn how geographic information system skills (GIS) can improve your business with a non-credit certificate course, “Improving Business Decision with Geographic Information System” at Texas A&M International University Friday, May 16 from 7 – 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 4 p.m.

Registration is $199 and $149 for TAMIU alumni, employees and students.

On-site registration will also be held on Friday, May 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. in Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall (PH), room 211.

This non-credit course aims to answer the question: “How can I use GIS to improve business decisions?” Participants will learn the basic skills of navigating GIS, retrieving business information and resource from a GIS system and building business decision tools from a GIS system.

This course is targeted to managers, professionals and entrepreneurs seeking opportunities to use GIS to explore business opportunities. Business students and individuals who plan on seeking professional opportunities in public and private sectors requiring GIS skills are also encouraged to register for this course.

Main topics covered include: introduction to GIS, navigating GIS, retrieving information from GIS, designing and using maps, finding GIS recourses in public domain and working on GIS tools.

Course instructor, Dr. Haibo Wang, assistant professor of decision science, holds a B.S. in biochemical engineering and an M.S. in chemistry, an M.E. in computer and information science and a Ph.D. in productions operations management.
