South Texas Writing Project Sets New Teacher Program

Before embarking on their careers, new teachers can take advantage of one of the widest, fastest growing teacher networks in Laredo with the South Texas Writing Project new teacher workshops at Texas A&M International University. The workshops are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2 and Saturday, Aug. 9, but registration is currently underway.

Registration fees are $165 for both days, $100 for one day and $25 for individual sessions.

The workshops will cover high interest new teacher topics.

Scheduled sessions for Aug. 2 include: Reading Strategies for Writers (all levels), Holistic Scoring for TAKS Essays (grades 4 – 11), Writing Across the Curriculum (all levels) and Classroom Management (grades 6 – 12).

Sessions for Aug. 9 include: Teaching Poetry to Children (grades 8 – 12), Creative Writing for All Subjects (grades 6 – 8), Grading Alternatives—Handling Your Paper Load (grades 6 – 12) and ESL Strategies for RA/RI, LEP Students (grades 9 – 10).

Each day also provides three hours of professional development hours with a potential to earn six hours.
