TAMIU-SBDC Starts Six-Month Certification Program

The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will kick off its Small Business Management Certificate Program in July 2008.

The Small Business Management Program was designed for the aspiring entrepreneur or for existing business owners. Its goal is to provide essential business tools for up and coming business owners over a six-month time period.

Program completion will enhance management skills and provide a good foundation for success. The SBDC’s Certified Business Advisors will provide one-on-one professional advising to assist participants with the start-up or expansion process of potential or existing business.

Requirements for completing the program include:

  • A one-time enrollment fee of $25
  • Attending the required seven courses below and complete two on-line courses within 6 months of starting the program
  • Scheduling an advising appointment with an SBDC-Certified Business Advisor
  • Beginning the program with “The Art of Starting a Business” followed by “The Business Plan.” All other courses can be taken in no particular order.

Required courses include: “The Art of Starting a Business;” “The Business Plan and Financing Options;” “Marketing Plan;” “Understanding Financial Statements;” “Managing Cash;” “Bookkeeping Basics;” “QuickBooks” and two On-line Courses (your choice).

Participants must pre-register for seminars.

Upon completion of the program, a reception will be held in honor of the participants and each will receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing their accomplishment.

The Small Business Management Program is valued at $150, those enrolling now pay only the enrollment fee.
