The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will hold free monthly orientations on the “Art of Starting a Business,” beginning Wednesday, July 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at TAMIU’s Pellegrino Hall, room 106.

Every first Wednesday of the month, from 9 to 11 a.m., the orientation will be presented in Spanish.

The monthly orientations are ideal for those contemplating or starting their own business. They will help those attending to avoid common pitfalls; evaluate strengths and weaknesses and the skills needed to succeed. Further, they will explore the initial paperwork, assessment process, legal structures and business plan needed.

The first step on the road to starting a business is the feasibility study. This first step helps the prospective business owner determine the practicality and viability of the business idea. A feasibility study provides an indication of market opportunity and growth potential. Having such information is vital before the potential business person risks valuable time and money.

The free of charge sessions will guide attendees through:

  • Choosing the right business
  • The feasibility study
  • Legal structure selection
  • Licenses and permits
  • Business plan
  • Financing options.

To register for the free orientation sessions, call the TAMIU-SBDC office at 956.326.2827, or e-mail sbdc@tamiu.edu. Register online at sbdc.tamiu.edu

TAMIU-SBDC hours are from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
