“Star Signs” at TAMIU LBV Planetarium Saturday

Although they may not be visible with the possibility of clouds looming through the weekend, the stars will shine at the Texas A&M International University Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium with the Laredo premiere of “Star Signs” Saturday, July 26 at 8 p.m.

The latest feature at the LBV Planetarium, “Star Signs,” examines the origins of astronomy and astrology while exploring the constellations. Audiences will learn about the Earth’s motions, constellations and the significance of the zodiac in this fun and educational show.

General admission is $5 for adults and $4 for children, TAMIU students, staff and alumni. Buy a ticket for a second show on the same night and receive a $2 discount.

Also showing that evening, starting at 6 p.m. is “Extreme Planets” and “Seven Wonders” at 7 p.m.

“Extreme Planets,” explores what makes a planet “Earth-like” and takes audiences on an immersive full-dome tour of several worlds that just might fit those conditions. Also on the tour are water worlds, molten landscapes, inhabitable moons and planets with multiple suns—exotic worlds that no longer exist only in science fiction. Actor, Rene Auberjonois (Odo on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and Clayton Endicott III on “Benson”) narrates “Extreme Planets.”

“Seven Wonders” features the seven wonders of the ancient world and investigates theories of how these marvels were created. Visitors will see ancient Egypt’s Great Pyramids and Lighthouse of Alexandria, wander through the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and stand in the shadow of the towering Colossus of Rhodes. Sean Bean, Boromir from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, narrates “Seven Wonders.”
