Texas A&M International University freshmen will participate in a special required overnight orientation program targeting the transition from high school to University Thursday and Friday, Aug. 7-8 in the University’s Student Center.

The “Orientation: Academic Anchoring” program focuses on building new student awareness of the University experience and a new academic world. All incoming, first semester freshmen are required to attend either session and be present for the 1 p.m. check-in on the opening. The sessions run through 5 p.m. the next day and include all meals and housing.

Sessions are limited to 250 students and advance registration is required by calling 956.326.2280. Students who have applied for on-campus housing or apply during the orientations will be entered to win a new computer, bookstore scholarship or additional prizes.

Dennis Koch, TAMIU director of Student Activities, said the program is vital to freshmen students and truly helps engage in a new learning environment.

For additional information, contact Koch at 326.2280, e-mail dkoch@tamiu.edu, or visit offices in Student Center, room 226C. This is the final Orientation prior to the start of the Fall Semester. Fall 2008 classes begin Monday, Aug. 25.
