‘Family Night,’ Stargazing at Planetarium Saturday

Explore the night sky at the Texas A&M International University Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium’s Family Night Saturday, Sept. 27. The events start with “Star Signs” at 8 p.m. followed by a live star presentation. Stargazing begins at 9 p.m.

General admission is $5 for adults and $4 for children, TAMIU students, staff and alumni. Buy a ticket for a second show on the same night and receive a $2 discount. Season passes are available starting for $35.

“At our last Family Night, families looked at the moon and its craters and they really enjoyed it. Families learned how and where to find the North Star Polaris and its importance and we also stayed late that night for the raising of Jupiter, which was worth waiting for because the view through the telescope was breathtaking,” added Jimenez.

“We will be looking for different objects visible during the autumn night sky including Jupiter and its four closest satellites. We will have telescopes on site, but families are welcome to bring their own,” said Jimenez.

The live telescope viewing will start at 9 p.m., weather permitting, and is free and open to the public.

The latest feature at the LBV Planetarium, “Star Signs,” examines the origins of astronomy and astrology while exploring the constellations. Audiences will learn about the Earth’s motions, constellations and the significance of the zodiac in this fun and educational show.

Also showing that evening, starting at 6 p.m. is “Black Holes” and “Seven Wonders” at 7 p.m.
