Long Duo Stars in Steinway Piano Festival Sunday

The Texas A&M International University Steinway Recital Series kicks off Sunday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. with the Long Piano Duo performance in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall, featuring Beatrice and Christina Long.

This event is free and open to the public.

The afternoon’s performance will include works from J.S. Bach, Silvio Scionti, C. Debussy, Bela Bartok, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Astor Piazzolla.

Born in Taiwan to a musical family, pianists Beatrice Long and Dr. Christina Long have enjoyed distinguishing their solo careers.

Beatrice Long is a graduate of Curtis Institute and Peabody Conservatory of Music. She has received top awards in the Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition, the Young Keyboard Artist Association International Competition, the AMSA World Piano Competition and the Taipei International Piano Competition.

She has performed as a soloist among several orchestras such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Taipei City Symphony Orchestra, the Jura Symphony Orchestra of France and the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, to name a few.

Dr. Christina Long is artist-in-residence at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She has served as assistant professor of piano at Westfield State College in Massachusetts and Tabor College in Kansas. In addition to holding a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, she has earned the Dissertation Award for Excellence in Musical Performance.

Other awards include first prizes for the Kingsville International Young Performers Competition, Sherman Symphony Orchestra Soloist competition and top prizes in the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra National Young Artist Competition, and Concerto Competition of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra.

In 1997, the Long sisters placed first in the Ellis Duo Piano Competition sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs.
