Want to know an important decision maker in today’s science field?

Then meet Dr. Chen-Han Sung, Texas A&M International University professor of mathematics, computer science and industrial engineering.

Dr. Sung is one of 130 scientists nationwide meeting this week in Arlington, Va., to review close to 600 research proposals submitted to the National Science Foundation’s Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program.

An NSF reviewer appointment is a prestigious honor that is extended to top scholars in the country based on their accomplishments in their fields of research, experience and professionalism.

“I think this appointment benefits TAMIU since we are trying to push for more research here,” Dr. Sung said, “for our University, this goes beyond submitting research proposals for national review since now, with my appointment, we also have representation in the review process.”

Reviewers are called yearly based on their particular areas of expertise, Sung explained.

Dr. Sung holds his Ph.D., M.S., and M.A. degrees from the University of California-Berkeley. His B.S. was earned at the National Tsing Hua University of China.

Prior to joining TAMIU, he served on the faculties of California State University, Hayward and other California universities including Chapman University, San Diego State University, and the University of California, Santa Barbara.

At San Diego State University, he was founding director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks.
