Texas A&M International University’s College of Education has scheduled an Orientation Session for persons interested in becoming part of the next cohort of individuals seeking a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

The Orientation Session will be held Friday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. in Bob Bullock Hall room 118, said organizer Dr. Barbara Greybeck.

“This is a good opportunity for those who may be considering the pursuit of our Ed.D. in C&I to explore the criteria, application process, program trajectory and career ramifications,” Dr. Greybeck said.

The program is part of an innovative collaboration with Texas A&M University in College Station and can be completed in 3-4 years. Entry is competitive and limited and applicants must have a graduate degree in a related education field from an accredited college, school or University.

Greybeck said the collaborative nature of the program requires that those selected for the cohort be flexible and able to participate in occasional short seminars in College Station.

“While the bulk of the program is delivered here in combinations of on-site, Trans Texas Video Network (TTVN) and Internet, there are some short seminars or weekend meetings that are held off-site, generally in College Station,” she explained.

Greybeck said the program has established strengths in both teaching and research and those who complete the program and earn the Ed.D. can entertain a variety of career opportunities, including joining the faculty of a regional university, working in applied research, directing programs in K-12 public and private education, consulting and more.

“In part because of the collaborative nature of the program and the tremendous changes in the field in the past decade, those who complete the program are truly primed for any number of opportunities in education,” she said.

University office hours are from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
