Take in an evening of delightful entertainment at the Texas A&M International University 2008 Fall Dance Concert Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall.

Admission is $5 per person and free for children 10 and under.

Proceeds benefit student scholarships.

“We will feature the works of our jazz, ballet, modern and flamenco troupes as well as the works of our senior dance minor students as they present their choreography in fulfillment of the requirements for the concert choreography class,” said Bede Leyendecker, chair and assistant professor of dance, department of fine and performing arts.

More than 100 students will be featured in the program performing to songs like “La Negra Tomasa” by Lobato, “Danse Macabre” by Saint-Saëns, “Entangled Rumbata” by Cuban Jazz Project, “4 Minutes” by Madonna and many more.

In addition to dances choreographed by students, the dancers will perform to choreography by Leyendecker, Courtney Mulcahy, visiting assistant professor of dance, Sandra E. Leal, adjunct instructor of dance and noted dance instructor Rogelio Rodríguez.

“The Concert is dedicated to our dear friend and mentor, Rogelio Rodríguez,” said Leyendecker.

Rodríguez danced and trained with such notables as José Greco Sr., Nana Lorca, Luisa Triana, Luís Montero, and Roberto Amaral and returned to TAMIU once a year to teach Laredo dancers at the annual Rogelio Rodríguez Flamenco Workshop. He passed away in June this year.

This event is sponsored in part by the generous donations from Webb County, Webb County Judge Danny Valdez and the Laredo Women’s City Club.
