The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC) will sponsor the hands-on workshop: “How to Manage Your Business Finances with QuickBooks Pro” on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the TAMIU Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall, room 211.

The $50 fee includes a workbook and lunch. Limited seating is available. Interested persons should call the TAMIU-SBDC office at 956.326.2827 or e-mail sbdc@tamiu.edu

Richard Pérez, SBDC director, explains that the days of manually posting transactions to journals and ledgers are gone. Computer technology has ushered accounting into a new generation. The benefit for business owners is the opportunity to participate at a higher level in the financial administration of their businesses.

Invoicing, sales receipts check writing, and the subsequent flow of information into a cash-in bank register are among the important basic features found in most accounting software applications. However, these processes represent only a small portion of the accounting procedures that can now be done electronically through software like QuickBooks.

The Nov. 7 workshop will include the following:

What is financial management?
Easy step interview tips (new company set-up)
Chart of accounts
How to add items, customers and vendors
Managing sales and expenses
Budgeting and reports
Resources and tips.

To register, call 326.2827 or register online at sbdc.tamiu.edu

Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.
