Returning to Texas A&M International University is a Laredo favorite, the 12th annual TAMIU Ballet Folklórico’s Las Posadas Concert to help kick off the holiday season Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) Recital Hall.

The event is free and open to the public. The Concert is sponsored in part by Target.

Las Posadas features the re-enactment of the procession that Joseph and Mary made through Bethlehem. During Las Posadas, guests stroll through the TAMIU campus during the re-enactment, concluding at the CFPA Recital Hall.

“The event will feature performances by the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico performing dances from different regions in México and dances from the Mexican Revolution period,” said Bede Leyendecker, assistant professor and chair for the CFPA.

The traditional dances featured in the program represent the states of Jalisco, Chihuahua, Guanajuato and a premiere performance of Aztec dances.

Now in its 12th year, the TAMIU Ballet Folklórico began Las Posadas to preserve the traditional Mexican posada and regional Mexican dances.
