Professional Development Course Offered for First Responders

First responders will want to make plans to attend the next professional development course offered by Texas A&M International University’s College of Arts and Sciences Department of Behavioral, Applied Sciences and Criminal Justice.

“Community Resource Mapping,” is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 116.

This course, sponsored in conjunction with the Texas National Guard, is free and open to the TAMIU and Laredo community.

“Community Resource Mapping,” taught by Dr. John Kilburn, associate professor of sociology, will introduce participants to the importance of making rapid assessments of community strengths and using them to provide services to maintain order in communities.

Upcoming courses include: “Narco-terrorism and International Organized Crime,” “Thinking Globally, Acting Locally: Situational Crime Prevention,” “Overview of Federal Criminal Justice System,” “Overview of Texas Criminal Justice System,” “Terrorism Law,” “Immigration Law,” “Comparative Criminal Justice Policy, Crime Prevention and Police Response,” “Globalization,” “Forensic Psychology,” and “Crime Types and Typologies.”
