First responders will want to make plans to attend anti-terrorism training sponsored by Texas A&M International University and the Laredo Police Department Tuesday, Feb. 3 starting at 8 a.m. in the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom.

Training is free of charge and open to the public, but anyone in law enforcement, emergency medical services, hospital staff, fire service, public safety communications and public works is encouraged to attend.

Registration is required and limited to the first 100 people. Reserve space by e-mailing the name or names and respective titles of those attending and a contact phone number to Dr. Claudia San Miguel, director, TAMIU criminal justice program, at csanmiguel@tamiu.edu.

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education training hours will be awarded to law enforcement who attend.

The first workshop, “Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings-Operations,” is designed to prepare emergency responders to perform effectively and safely during bombing incidents, principally in support roles within the warm and cold zones of an incident. The course also addresses actions that emergency responders can take to prevent and/or deter bombing attacks against targets in their communities.

“Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings-Operations,” will meet from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The afternoon workshop, “Prevention of and Response to Suicide Bombing Incidents,” will meet from 1 – 5 p.m. The course addresses actions that individual emergency responders can take to assist in preventing or deterring suicide bombings as well as techniques, tactics and procedures that support an effective and safe response to a suicide bombing.

Attendance of both workshops is not required.

All training and course materials will be provided free of charge. Lunch will not be provided.
