Texas A&M International University invites those interested in graduate education to the Graduate Studies and Research Open House, Thursday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center, Fernando A. Salinas Lecture Room (WHTC 111).

The Open House will offer information on academic programs from the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business and College of Education. Participants can learn about admissions requirements and meet program advisors. Refreshments will be served.

Financial assistance information for graduate students will be available at the event. Graduate students have the opportunity to apply for scholarships generously provided by the Lamar Bruni Vergara Educational Fund. The LBV Educational Fund provides scholarships, assistantships and fellowships to qualified students.

Scholarships pay tuition up to $3,000 a year ($1,000 per semester, including summer). Fellowships pay tuition up to $6,000 per year and are awarded to graduate students for part-time work (10 hours per week) in teaching or research while pursuing an advanced degree.

Assistantships are benefits-eligible financial awards to a graduate student for part-time work (20 hours per week) in teaching or research while pursuing an advanced degree, and pay tuition up to $9,000 per year.

The University offers more than 25 masters degree programs. All share a progressive agenda for global study and understanding across all disciplines.

TAMIU and the Office of Graduate Studies are committed to the preparation of students for leadership roles in their chosen profession and in an increasingly complex, culturally diverse state, national, and global society.

With the national economic downturn, many are smartly considering ways to retool and secure their careers with graduate degrees, said Cassandra Wheeler, the University’s executive director of Career Services.

“A graduate degree is basically re-investment education – getting a graduate degree bolsters relevance to the market and can advance and further secure a career in the long run,” said Wheeler.
Deadline for Summer and Fall 2009 admission is April 30. Deadline for Spring 2010 admission is Nov. 30.
