Yoga classes are now being offered at Texas A&M International University.

Classes are open to the public and presented once a week in room 123 in TAMIU’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts on Wednesdays from 7 - 8 p.m. Cost is $ 35 a month with proceeds supporting TAMIU’s dance programs. No registration is required.

The class is lead by TAMIU’s Dr. Jyotsna Mukherji, an associate professor in the University’s A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business who has studied and practiced yoga for most of her life.

Yoga can help improve flexibility, build core strength and manage stress. Many believe it measurably improves quality of life.

The class includes asanas (yoga poses), pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation practices. Participants should wear comfortable clothing, and bring a yoga mat or thick cotton sheet to class. Mats are available for purchase at a number of local retail stores.

For additional information, contact Dr. Mukherji at 326.2542 or the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at 326.2654.

Journalists who need additional information or help with media requests and interviews should contact the Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services at prmis@tamiu.edu
